Edna McGill OAM

by Esther Lozano - Thursday, 25 August 2016

It is with great sorrow that we inform our members that Edna McGill OAM sadly passed away yesterday.

Edna was a strong supporter of ECCNSW and a huge advocate for multiculturalism across Australia.
We pass on our condolences to the family and may she rest in peace.
Edna was involved with community languages since the inception of the Board of Community Languages  as the nominee of the Ethnic Communities' Council of NSW.  She spent her lifetime campaigning for public education and the community for which she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1986.
In 2004 she received the first Meritorious Service to Public Education award.  The citation on the award stated: "for more than 40 years, Edna McGill has made an outstanding contribution to education in NSW… her contribution covers such areas as curriculum, support for multicultural education, the education of indigenous students and for anti-racism programs".
