The Ethnic Communities' Council NSW welcomes the passage in the NSW Parliament of legislation designed to strengthen protections against incitement to violence targeting minority and culturally and linguistically diverse communities in this State.

"This legislation represents an important signal from our State Parliamentary leaders that they take the welfare and concerns of ethnic communities within NSW seriously and are willing to take action to strengthen community harmony," said ECC NSW Chair Ms Marta Terracciano.

"The ECCNSW, our members and diverse communities in our State together with the Keep NSW Safe campaign have called on our Government and Opposition to reform legislation intended to provide protection against incitement to violence based on race which was not working. We are grateful that our Parliamentary leaders have consulted with community groups, listened to our concerns and taken important action on this crucial issue."

"We look forward to continuing to work with our Parliamentary leaders in fostering and strengthening community harmony in NSW," she concluded.
